Why do the remains of humans demand a higher respect absence of a religious purpose? DaShi alluded to this with sky burials - why shouldn't we just expose humans to the elements and have our elements go back into the Earth? Who cares about your own remains unless you believe there is a religious or supernatural reason for treating them with respect?“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Capitalism and post-modern has screwed you all entierly. A century ago such thing would have caused wide outrage on the West, 'cause you were Christians back then. Now you are obviously not. You are just human robots without any moral and understanding of what is good and what is wrong."I hope I get to punch you in the face one day" - MRT144, Imran Siddiqui

For other faiths, I imagine it has to do with as my wiki link indicated "concern for the dead that transcends daily life". Human remains are to be honored to remember that the person's soul/spirit/whathaveyou is still alive.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

You don't need religion to have morality, and that to think that respect for humans is important. It started in small groups of family or band before there was any organised religion. Organised religion helped spread the idea as we gathered into larger and larger groups, but is not required to keep the idea that the way we treat others is important in how we want to be treated ourselves. These are simply the rules we've adopted to live as social beings.(\__/)

Furthermore, having respect for your fellow humans in small groups or families or bands for the necessity of survival doesn't necessarily mean having respect for other humans who look differently than you or speak other languages. Why shouldn't we advocate for our band of folks to respect other band of folks, when those band of folks may have something we want or need and won't give it to us?“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.
