  • This is a real problem people. It's easy to be supportive of some new restriction when you're attacking a boogeyman. Take anti-bullying laws for instance. It's sad when kids kill themselves over online bullying, so people want to pass laws to make that illegal. What's to keep those laws from being used by the rich and powerful to silence their critics? Do you think that rich and powerful people won't be able to afford expensive lawyers, who can twist and subvert anti-bullying laws into universal gag orders on all criticism?

I realize that's not the same thing as this situation, but it comes down to the same basic principle of freedom. The price of freedom is *******s. It's an unavoidable price. The only way to get rid of *******s is to get rid of freedom. Is that worth it to you? Why not just rise above them and live your own life?

No one is being made into a second class citizen by this law. No one.
So private individuals who own hotels and bakeries can discriminate against people due to color or gender? Do tell.

      • You're okay with a mother killing her own unborn children in the name of privacy. How is "refusal to bake a cake" worse than that? Just how twisted is your idea of privacy?

        • Am I?

And are these women opening up a business for the creation of unborn children, putting what they have to offer in the public sphere?

Well, I don't know. Let's see what the next thing you say is...

Yeah, it looks to me like you are okay with mothers killing their children. And it also looks to me like you think it's okay to kill your kids, but it's not okay to refuse to bake a cake.

            You're twisted. Seriously.

            • How can you read the Bible and not take away the idea that God loves the weak? Who's weaker than the unborn?

              • The utter idiocy of claiming a right to privacy when you are hawking your wares in public is astounding.

                • When mothers actually kill their children, its not ok. Of course embryos don't equal children. Trying to turn a discrimination thread into an abortion thread is hilarious, btw. Ben like in attempt to change the subject to deflect the fact you lost.

                  • My right to privacy doesn't end just because I engage in commerce. If I sell old CDs on eBay, can the government now search my home without a warrant?

Of course not. It's not like all human embryos are human or anything. After all, that embryo might grow up into a pumpkin or something.

Is a CD shop allowed to refuse to sell to blacks?

Is your home search connected to the CDs in any significant way? Does it concern the part where you put yourself in the public sphere? Are your strawmen in the private sphere as well

So you are admitting you've lost the discrimination argument. Cool

Let's say that you make web sites. Let's say you use social networks to hawk your "wares" (in this case, labor and expertise). Are you obliged to make a neo-Nazi website if they try to hire you?

Is a lawyer obligated to take any client who walks into his office?

Why is a baker any different?

I'm cool with that. The current law obviously says it's not cool, but laws can change.

You're the one that said I no longer had a right to privacy. I'll let you answer these questions.

Go back to protected classes discussion in this thread.
