For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

    • Why do you hate gay people, DinoDoc?

That is an outstanding question. Why would anybody hire a notorious bigot for anything? Maybe if they're super good at what they do, like if Tony Stark was a white supremacist, but you really needed him to crank out some gizmo to save the world. But that's hardly an everyday occurrence.

          • You guys act like no group has ever been ostracized before. America was founded, in part, by people who didn't fit in elsewhere. And even after the colonial period, plenty of people moved west and founded Utopian communities to try to live a more fulfilling life. The problem with freedom is that you're stuck putting up with *******s. The upside is that you're not stuck with those *******s. You have the freedom to move on to greener pastures.

I wish the Left would move to China and the Right would move to Russia. There would a lot more America for the real Americans.

Exactly. Just like blacks could have moved elsewhere instead of putting up with ****s during the 1950s and 1960s instead of throwing hissy fits.

                • You keep comparing the current situation for gays to that of blacks in the 50s and 60s. It only makes me respect you less.

Both movements are about civil rights and equality.

Because racial segregation and discrimination was much more pervasive and systematic does not negate that.

Why not just compare yourself to jews in Nazi Germany?

That's fine, but it really doesn't matter. Sexual orientation rights are moving forward to protected classhood, because people do realize the horribleness of treating homosexuals as second class citizens due to the lessons learned by the African-American Civil Rights Movement.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
                        - John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

This was more doable before the US stretched from sea to shining sea.

If you want to compare somebody not baking a cake with police using attack dogs and fire hoses on peaceful protesters, go right ahead and spit all over the real Civil Rights movement. It only makes you look like an idiot.

This isn't the government singling them out. This is private individuals making their own decisions about what to do with their time. I realize that law school has turned your brain into mush, but you need to accept that the government is still going to treat everybody the same even if bakers and barbers are *******s. No one is being made into a second class citizen by this law. No one.

                            • Just because people were ostracized in the past doesn't make it a thing we should try to foster. Just because people can (to varying extents) move to other places doesn't mean we should allow other peoples' bigotry to be able to force them to do so.

For the sake of argument, let's say that you're right. Let's accept, as a general principle, that we should not allow bigots to force people to leave their homes. It's a pretty sensible rule, but it requires a bit of clarification.

Is not baking somebody a wedding cake the same thing as forcing them to abandon their home? Where do we draw the line on this? Are there any other thoughtcrimes we need to arrest and imprison people for?
