Yeah thanks. I was kind of laughing when I saw the path you listed. I didn't take the etc. literally so I didn't check. When Snoopy showed me that that was indeed the path, I felt a little silly. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. You probably put it there during the previous server move because your DNS server was still pointing to the old IP address.Originally posted by rah View PostDing Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner. Snoopy showed me where the host file was and there was a reference to poly in it. It works fine now.
How it got there is a mystery to me. But then, at my age, there are many mysteries.

As I said, MANY mysteries
Someone would have had to explain the process explicitly, because I know I lack the knowledge at that level. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Did you ever use that computer to play multiplayer Civ where it might be easier to connect to a via name rather than IP?Originally posted by rah View PostDing Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner. Snoopy showed me where the host file was and there was a reference to poly in it. It works fine now.

It's one of my computers at work, so no, no civ playing there.Originally posted by MRT144 View PostDid you ever use that computer to play multiplayer Civ where it might be easier to connect to a via name rather than IP?It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. The most likely thing is that at some point your company blocked poly and you wanted to bypass their firewalls or something. Bad Rah.Originally posted by rah View PostDing Ding Ding Ding. Snoopy reminded me that sometime in the past a dns hack had occurred and he might have helped me with this entry. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

If my boss didn't make me work so much (I'm on a work pc now doing worky work stuff) maybe I would
Also, as much as you all like the 'dns server' stuff, seriously, you think someone who doesn't know how to deal with DNS themselves is going to monkey with a dns server? On a work pc nonetheless (that they probably don't have admin rights on)? I don't even know if *I* could make my work PCs use a different DNS server, and I know what the **** I'm doing. (Well, I could, but let's say, I don't know if I could without misbehaving and/or borrowing sysadmin rights for a day. Shhh.) Hosts file was the only logical answer.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
