    I know the semitic language speaking Arabs are not frequently referred to as "semites". It's still ironic to call them antisemites. Also, people don't refer to Jews as "semites" all that often either.

      How fascinating because when I look up 'Semites' in the Jewish Encyclopedia (http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/ar.../13414-semites), I get:

      The Arabs in the desert fastnesses of central and northern Arabia have, on account of their isolated position, preserved unchanged more features of primitive Semitic character, custom, and language than any other Semitic nation;
      most scholars agreeing that Arabia was the cradle-land of the Semites, while North Africa was that of the united Hamito-Semitic race, and that the Semites in prehistoric times separated from their kinsmen and migrated to Arabia, where their special racial characteristics and the distinguishing features of their languages were developed, and whence they were distributed over other Semitic countries.

        In the past 60 years, has there ever been a discussion, between Americans, about Israel that remained calm, objective and unbiased?

          Israel is like any other country. It has a lot of positives but also has a lot of flaws. It certainly has its share of questionable activities. Those that deny even the existence of these negatives, who instead uphold Israel as some sort of Messianic state that can do no wrong, need to be corrected.

          What would be going too far for Israel? That's a legitimate thought experiment for HC. At what point would he say Israel did something terrible? Nuking Beirut? Using chemical weapons in the West Bank? Israel will never do those things but would HC still defend such actions as justified?

          If those are beyond the pale, where is the line drawn? Clearly the line is somewhere beyond Israel's current activities but exactly where is it where HC would waiver in his unqualified support for another nation?

              In all the years you have had that avatar, how many times has he struck that cowbell?
              No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

                Well, that's a difficult question. Are we counting every separate post I've made?

                  Hmm, good point. We'd also need how many views each post had.

                    Well, I came close once. I asked someone, "Is Israel south of Syria, or north?" And he said, "South, I think." We were pretty calm up to that point, but I suddenly snapped and started screaming something about the dirty Zionist agenda. Don't know what came over me, I just couldn't help myself.

                          I could see that if Al were really being an ass and wearing his patriotism on his sleeve. In context, though, it was uncalled for.
