      "Freedom from" seems like a misunderstanding of the word freedom to me. It's all just more evidence that FDR didn't understand freedom, democracy, or limited government (or just perhaps didn't believe in any of them).

        No, of course we don't freedom from terrible things. And "free will" seems to be the most popular basis for any theodicy.

          If heaven exists, one of the following must be true:
          1. There is evil in heaven
          2. Humans lack free will in heaven, like animals
          3. Evil is not a necessary condition for free will

          I suppose it's possible that a God exists but there is no life after death, or the afterlife will be just like this life.

                              I'm saying that you are imposing a Christian concept on a person who didn't live his life according to that set of cultural precepts. If we're going to get into an absurd argument on the existence of Hell, Sharon would agree with you on its non-existence.

                                That's far from the only one too as there are loads of them on the internet. It's what happens when you have bored G.I.s forced to stay awake all night watching for insurgents while the locals have a panache for buggering barnyard animals.
