  • -Jrabbit and Embalmer are the leading candidates for the Empty Casket award with their last hits being in January and February respectively. Unless someone jinxes them ( ) and they end up not getting another hit, in which case it falls to me.

There is a three way tie for the Killing Spree award between me, Laz, and Sloww with 2. Each of our bids for 3 was interrupted by a different player; Sloww ( ), Uncle Sparky, and Robert Plomp respectively. My steak is still active, however.

      • "Baby Doc" is Dead

        http://www.thestar.com/news/world/20...ead_at_63.html

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI—Jean-Claude-Duvalier, the self-proclaimed “president for life” of Haiti whose corrupt and brutal regime in the 1970s and 1980s sparked a popular uprising that sent him into a 25-year exile, died Saturday of a heart attack, his lawyer said.

Reynold George said the former leader died at his home. He was 63.

Duvalier, looking somewhat frail, made a surprise return to Haiti in 2011, allowing victims of his regime to pursue legal claims against him and prompting some old allies to rally around him. Neither side gained much support, and the once-feared dictator known as “Baby Doc” spent his late years in relative obscurity in the leafy hills above the Haitian capital.

Duvalier was the son of François “Papa Doc” Duvalier, a medical doctor-turned-dictator who promoted “Noirisme,” a movement that sought to highlight Haiti’s African roots over its European ones while uniting the black majority against a mulatto elite in a country divided by class and colour.

Haitians came up with zombies - maybe they could still have Duvalier pay his debt to society?

            • 60s pop star Paul Revere, 76, has made his last ride. RIP.

(CNN) -- Paul Revere, leader of the 1960s rock band Paul Revere and the Raiders, died Saturday at his home in Idaho, the band's website reported. He was 76.

Revere -- whose birth name was Paul Revere Dick, according to a biography on the Internet Movie Database -- was frontman for the band that often performed in three-cornered hats and other clothing harking back to the Ameican Revolution.

Revere was born in Nebraska and played in bands in Idaho and Oregon, according to a tribute on the band website written by Roger Hart, who managed the group in the early days. Hart said he took the band to Hollywood and signed them to a deal with CBS/Columbia Records.

The band recorded a string of hits in the 1960s and early 1970s, including "Kicks," "Hungry" and "Indian Reservation." Revere, the band's organist, had a hyperactive effervescent stage personality and came to be known as "the madman of rock 'n' roll."

Paul is the keyboard player (original lead vocalist was Mark Lindsay).

                      • Another hit for me- Gough Whitlam is sadly missed already.

Former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam has died at the age of 98.

He was credited with transforming Australian society in the 1970s after 23 years of conservative government, introducing many far-reaching reforms.

But his government was plagued by resignations and the governor-general dismissed it after just three years.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott described Mr Whitlam as a "giant of his time" and said flags across Australia would fly at half-mast on Tuesday.

In a statement, Mr Whitlam's family said he was an "inspiration to us and our families and for millions of Australians".

Mr Whitlam's reforms included introducing free university education, abolishing the death penalty and allowing non-white immigrants into Australia.

                        • That puts you back in the lead after I check my own list in order to confirm the end of my killing spree bid. Whereupon I discovered a difficult to find hit in Robert Demeger as apparently the stage is not well covered these days. For Mr. Demeger, I have used the DOB from IMDb as being the easiest source to find anything beyond the year.

                          Thus:

                              • Yeah, this has been a bit of a practice run for the scoring. I expect I have rather more free time than reg and a heavy touch of perfectionism/obsession/compulsion that he doesn't seem to exhibit for such an important endeavor as the Dead Pool.

He did keep it alive when it might have otherwise died though.
