  • Very sad.

    With more sadness to add...

Jazz cat and hard bop pioneer Horace Silver has died. He was 85.

Horace was a true original and very influential. He started as a sax player and later switched to piano. Listen to the beginning of his classic "Song for My Father" and you'll immediately recognize it as the opening to Steely Dan's "Rikki Don't Lose That Number." An homage from Donald Fagen to one of his heroes.

    RIP to two musical legends.

      Inventor, Stephanie Kwolek, dies.

WASHINGTON – Stephanie Kwolek, an American chemist who in 1965 invented a super-strong fibre called Kevlar that revolutionized body armour and protected innumerable police officers and soldiers from bullets, has died at age 90.

Kwolek, who worked for the DuPont chemical company for four decades starting in 1946, died in Delaware after a short illness. The company confirmed her death.

"We are all saddened at the passing of DuPont scientist Stephanie Kwolek, a creative and determined chemist and a true pioneer for women in science," DuPont Chief Executive Ellen Kullman said in a statement. "Her synthesis of the first liquid crystal polymer and the invention of DuPont Kevlar highlighted a distinguished career."

The 4-foot-11 Kwolek was working to find a fibre to strengthen radial tires when she came across a thin, milky solution of polymers that showed real promise....

This is what comes from mocking Molly - now we have to look them up ourselves.

Yes. They were all dining at a particularly dull Norte Americano fast 'food' outlet.

I killed them for lack of taste and discernment.

Someone I once worked with commented that I reminded her of John Malkovich. I thought 'How pleasant'. Then she said in which film... it was

              'In The Line Of Fire'.

These days, I'm leaning more towards Antony Hopkins.

              • Felix Dennis, the notorious "Oz" magazine editor, multi-millionaire, sexual Tyrannosaur, poet, and being almost entirely made of cocaine, died yesterday. An utterly magnificent gentleman, the like of which we shall surely never see again.

                        • Former Republican Senator Howard Baker dead at 88

...Baker stood out during the Senate’s 1973 Watergate hearings by asking witnesses, “What did the president know and when did he know it?”
... and that was about a Republican President!!! Could you imagine an elected American being that non-partisan today? I think not.
