He's annoyed because the pay gap thing is a dumb argument that gets trotted out to excuse affirmative action and other nonsense even though there are adequate non-discriminatory explanations for the differences in men and womens' pay. Despite that it won't ****ing die.

When I was a freshman, the feminist society or whatever they call it here at RIT got brilliantly trolled when some frat put up flyers announcing "free sandwiches at the womens' center in the SAU [date, time, room number, etc]." A bunch of people actually showed up and crashed their meeting looking for sandwiches. I don't think they ever caught the culprit.

I've still got the school-wide email that got sent out over that.

I think he's saying that slavery still exists, but people don't really pay that much attention to it. There are still anti-slavery activists against those practices.

Found it. It's some comedy gold because of the ridiculous weasel words.

            Dear RIT Community:

Unfortunately over the weekend, there was a bias-related incident near one of our residence halls. Public Safety is investigating the incident and any suspects found will be referred to the Center for Student Conduct in Student Affairs.

If you have any information related to this incident, please contact RIT Public Safety at 475-3333.

I would like to remind everyone within our campus community to revisit the ideals that we foster within our community and stand together to denounce and condemn any acts of intolerance. RIT's Expectations for Community Behavior states that, “as a member of the community, each person respects the dignity of all persons and acts to protect and safeguard the well being and property of others.”

We will not tolerate any form of bias-related harassment on our campus. We must provide a learning environment that celebrates pluralism and is free of bias.

I look forward to working together to foster an environment that will enhance student learning and is welcoming to all.

            Sincerely,

            Bill Destler
            President
            RIT

Thing is rape has always been considered a serious crime and it's dishonest to insist otherwise.

There are a lot of factors that play into the gender pay gap, and it's not at all clear that discrimination doesn't play a part. But beyond that, sexism still exists in America, in subtle and not so subtle ways, and feminists oppose that sexism. No, nothing in America is at bad as what happens in Saudi Arabia or India or other countries, but it's still a problem, which is why interests groups exist to combat the problem. I don't know why that bothers people.

It's pretty clear that it doesn't. 100% of the gap goes away when you account for lost time due to pregnancy, maternity leave, and generally working fewer hours.

I'm not about to get worked up over minor cultural perceptions of women, when these days sexism is pretty much a two-way street (witness the advantage women have with divorce cases and child custody for instance--based on the cultural perception that children should stay with the mother, among other things). The playing field is more or less level in terms of opportunity; in terms of results, the differences are simply due to different choices and goals between men and women.

Problem is when sexism is only a small problem and you try to make it a big problem. That is hostile passive aggressive. The goal of feminism is to break up the nuclear family by making wives hostile towards their husbands which causes conflict in society.

Except in marriage where raping your spouse used to be perfectly legal.

regarding the pay gap, it should be easy for hc and reg to prove their assertion. say a study looking at childless women...

That was horrible and a woman had no options either. I'm not saying we should put women back in that situation. I'm just saying that men were given the ability to provide for women because they were expected to provide for them. Men have issues too. Unfortunately feminism is one of them, not because of what that claim it stands for but because the feminists see men as an enemy.

Those studies exist and prove the kucibros wrong. Unfortunately, they'll claim that women choose lower paying jobs for various reasons and won't consider the (sometimes sexist) cultural forces that lead women to make such choices. For whatever reason, this is an issue that really riles them up, so they're very unlikely to consider evidence that runs counter to their beliefs.
