You keep losing because you're traditionally ****ing awful at hearts and minds campaigns.

I didn't say hearts and minds was bad, I said you're bad at it. There's a difference.

I'm saying that we should play to our strengths. Take Afghanistan as an example. What actual nation is there for us to build up?

Nation building was wrong in '93, and it's wrong now. You are not going to "civilize" a people at the end of a bayonet unless you are far more ruthless at it than we are.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

And we, rightly, don't want to be that ruthless, which is why we never win.

Here's what the US military is good at: Blowing **** up and killing bad guys. End of list. They have no business trying to bring a backwards, violent culture up to speed.

Before trolls of "US is backwards and violent"--yeah no. We're not the taliban. Nice try.

If we're bad at it, nobody is good at it. Don't claim the British are any better because there isn't a British empire anymore and Malaya was just playing with all the ****ing cheat codes on; the population was already in the British camp anyway.

So, we're supposed to dislike Israel, not because of recent or current events, but due to an isolated incident from the '80s? Should I assume NASA is hopelessly incompetent on account of the Challenger mission?

For all intents and purposes, the only people we could civilize at the end of a bayonette are other first world nations that took a risk and lost and want to get back to their comfy lives making pretzels and spatzel and weiss bier.

The world needs more spaetzle. More pretzels would not hurt either. Don't really care about the beer, I like wine and scotch.
