The Elok parts are pretty awesome .

I always thought the Great Schism and the 4th Crusade were very interesting historical events. Its just with Westerocentrism we tend not to even register that the East exists aside from like China and Ay-rabs.

Well, the historical record shows that plenty of Catholic priests and churches (including the Vatican) were used to save Jews.

That's okay, we all ignore the 'stans, except when we're invading them. Or, centuries ago, vice-versa.

If you asked a cantankerous old Greek/Russian/Serbian dude, he'd likely have nothing good to say about Turks or Catholics. But, to be fair, he'd loathe the Turks and merely look down on the Catholics (possibly not if he was Greek). I've had friends who were Muslims or Catholics, so I don't really dislike either group--but it is weird how most Catholics don't seem to realize how much trouble they've caused us in the past.

RE: the Holocaust, during WWII, the protos of Mt. Athos wrote and asked Hitler to put the mountain under his personal protection. As expected, Der Fuhrer was enormously flattered, and gave strict orders for his troops to stay out. The monks, as the story goes, then quietly offered shelter to a number of Jewish women. When the Nazis came asking, the monks noted that they had never, ever given women permission to set foot on the peninsula. And, after the war ended, they never did.

Yeah, because we were motivated to eradicate all traces of Orthodoxy. Christ, this is like a wife married to an abusive husband. "But at least he loves me." No, no, he doesn't

Which Ben goes to prove in this thread. Its like a "I don't remember that we did stuff to you, so why do you?"
