I've never heard of people in the private sector who seemingly couldn't get fired . Heck, I just investigated a company where the CEO embezzled like $3 million, but since he was the son of the founding owner, he wasn't asked to leave for years.

Also, Lerner did resign after being placed on administrative leave. You realized that, right?

She had a paid vacation and eventually decided to retire on her pension. Hardly the samething as being fired.

There were people at the fed who had been working there for 40 years, and nobody could ever remember them doing a single goddamn thing. People in the IT department I was in who could barely boot up their own computers. It was a ****ing disgrace.

I've seen the same thing in private companies. Seems like confirmation bias to me.

We're not required to pay for those companies to exist though.

There were several people of that type my manager wanted to fire but he was unable to do so. About half our group was contractors, because that way he could dismiss them at will.

Like I said, most people don't really know how the federal government works. They ask you to resign (mostly to avoid paperwork and to pay you a severance). The vast majority of people accept (mostly because once you are fired from the federal government, you can never work for any federal agency again).

So we will compare the federal government to private companies in negative ways but not in other positive ways depending on our fancy. That seems... convenient.

In Lerner's case, would you care to take a guess what most people would have preferred?

I haven't said one word about private enterprise in comparison to the federal government in this thread. I merely stepped into the conversation to support part of HC's post (inability of the Federal Government to fire anyone no matter how much the conduct calls for it).

And like I said, I know people who were asked to resign (and if they refused would get fired on the spot). So in this anecdotal war, let me just say my evidence trumps yours

Corruption exists at the federal level, but there's a good reason why it's hard to fire federal employees.

Corruption existing at the federal level stems at least in part from it being so damn hard to fire federal employees.
