  • "man" refers to mankind in that sentence

    • Yes. There was no mankind before Adam.

      • Gen 1:27 says male and female were made on the 6th Day and they were told to have kids and fill the Earth. That is not what Adam and Eve were doing, she wasn't even there yet and if Adam was there, he sure wasn't being fruitful and filling the Earth. Later on he was taken eastward to the Garden to work, name the animals, find one for a companion, and having failed at that, get a rib removed during an operation (huh?). Then and only then does Eve show up in the story.

So what are they doing? Not having kids! Not filling the Earth with their children. Well, whatever they did it wasn't in accordance with the instructions God gave the people made on the 6th Day. And when they finally did have children, it was because the Serpent intervened.

I have a question: which "god" told the 6th Day people to proliferate? Was it the "Jehovah" who took the man to the Garden and forbade procreation, the Serpent who encouraged it, or some other god?

The monotheists combined several gods into one and that dichotomy is evidence of this deity with split personalities. God tells people to fill the world, God gets mad at 2 people for having kids in his Garden. Even kicked them out! Fantastic!

        • They were not punished for having children. In fact, they weren't told not to have children. They were told not to eat a certain fruit (which God created btw). They ate that fruit because the deceiver suggested they do.

The creation story is part of many belief systems. As Nikolai has said, you need to read the creation story in the context of the whole Bible to get the proper Christian perspective. "I am the alpha and the omega" thus says the Lord.

          • The "knowledge" was procreation, that explains the fig leaves, Eve's pain in childbirth, and Cain and Abel... What else is there? What is the knowledge if not sexual? Every bit of symbolism in the story is about procreation.

            • The fig leaves represent separation from God. Berz, having a family is not a sin. Disobedience, is a sin. It seems stupid, because they just ate a fruit. But they disobeyed. The way the story goes tells us all disobedience is sin, and the wage of sin is death. But He overcame death.

              • Why did God evict Adam and Eve from the Garden?

The Garden is only for His servants.

Pope Francis has said he believes in the Big Bang theory.

The pontiff also said that the scientific account of the beginning of the universe confirms God's existence.

At a meeting of the Vatican's Pontifical Academy for Sciences, he said that evolution was compatible with God's plan.

He said though the first book of the Bible, Genesis, might suggest God was a "magician with a magic wand able to do everything," that this "is not so".

Instead he claimed that God "created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfilment," reported the Religious News Service.

He added: "Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve."

So Ben, are you going to stop pretending evolution doesn't exist now your leader has told you to stop being a moron?

It depends on what you believe to be "intelligent design". Guided evolution is not the same thing as the folks trying to do pseudo-scientific explanations.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
