AAVs appear to be deathtraps. If you were actually storming a beach, looks like it'd be pretty easy to pwn them with shore-based rockets.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

I think they ride pretty low in the water, might be hard to hit I don't know.

I don't see how they can possibly be better than helicopters.

I agree. Practicing something never makes you better at it.

          THANKS OBAMA

Q: What do you call a transport helicopter approaching over water?

            A: Skeet.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Practicing skills that you will NEVER use is a waste of time.

The Marine Corps conducted 104 amphibious operations in the 90's and 38 in the 2000's.

The 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) is one of the principal means by which the tenets of the National Defense Strategy are translated into potentially new policies, capabilities and initiatives. The QDR will set a long-term course for DoD to follow and will provide a strategic framework for...

We're talking about different things. How many lawyers led an attack on a fixed position in the past 80 years?

As I understand it, they are Marines first, lawyers second.

Yes that is what I'm saying is dumb, every other service just has their lawyers and doctors be lawyers and doctors and it works just fine, since they NEVER use the other skills. They get trained in like, how to put on a gas mask and stuff in the army but otherwise they just do JAG things.

Seems like a silly thing to get worked up about.

Alby's the one who brought it up.

                            Indeed.

Though, I can't say I necessarily disagree with you... but if we're going to examine USMC training protocols, I would imagine this particular issue would be a very low priority.

I want to know when they train marines of the future to treat women like **** but given Alby's prior history, I feel like USMC are flame to the same kinds of moths.

None. Granted, the surf was very calm but when you're in there and the AAV is moving, you can't really tell the difference between being in the water and on the sand. It's only when it stops in the water that you feel that slight rolling. Moving, it feels the same on calm sea as land.

AAV's come with a Mk 19 and M2. Good amount of firepower. Plus the low profile in the water makes it hard to hit.

However, we were supposed to replace the AAV's with the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle which would have had more armor but that got canned.

Yes. Every Marine is a rifleman.

This focus on the infantry is matched with the doctrine that "Every Marine a rifleman", a focus of Commandant Alfred M. Gray, Jr., emphasizing the infantry combat abilities of every Marine. All Marines, regardless of military specialization, receive training as a rifleman; and all officers receive additional training as infantry platoon commanders.[24] For example, at Wake Island, when all of the Marine aircraft were shot down, pilots continued the fight as ground officers, leading supply clerks and cooks in a final defensive effort
Later, at the Chosin Reservoir, a hodgepodge of Marines fought the Chinese.
