IIRC HC actually supports redistribution. Just under specific criteria that would ensure that it is impossible to ever get passed into law.
I support redistribution that involves giving poor people sums of money instead of benefits like healthcare and food stamps, which are paternalistic and market-distorting. I also support programs that discourage people from relying on subsidies and encourage people to improve their economic situation.

I don't support middle-class entitlements like social security or medicare, and I don't think that there should be tax advantages for healthcare, home ownership, or higher education, as this is essentially taking money from the poor and giving it to the rich.

So we are in agreement. You support redistribution under criteria that would ensure that it is impossible to ever get passed into law

And heaven forbid that anyone should benefit from such redistribution - such are only done to chill any potential anger
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

It's just a friendly jab at HC. He's only half the monster I portray him to be.

You shouldn't make fun of him like that. Just because he's short doesn't make him any less of a monster

Quick question: What happens when those poor people spend that money on say a short term emergency and are then unable to pay for food or healthcare?

If you've got somewhere to live, healthcare and food, the severity in scope of what a "short term emergency" might constitute is greatly reduced.

The problem with giving money is that there are often dependants, not in control of the finances, who can have bad decisions made on their behalf.

If you give a family enough money to pay for food, housing and healthcare and the parents decide to spend it on something else, you are allowing them to make bad decisions that put their kids in danger and it's the kids who suffer.

It's not an easy problem to solve. It is paternalistic, and many people will make good decisions but it sort of has to be for the exceptions.

Exactly, especially because at that end of the scale the margins of error are so incredibly small. If someone who is extremely poor (and let's not forget that this can have at least a loose correlation with level of education etc) makes a financial mistake, under a money only system the price of that mistake could easily be homelessness or hunger for them and their families.

Not when that emergency is repairing or replacing transportation.

You'll have to forgive the euros. They have this strange thing called "public transportation" where they are from.
