Delrium is a condition which will go away when treated. Gender dysphoria is a state that will not go away, generally, and can have physical or physiological origins.

The goal in this, as in a lot of things, should be happy people. We don`t make people experiencing gender dysphoria happy by trying to alter their minds. We can make them happy by altering their bodies. We can make them even happier by losing bigoted attitudes.

I think someone on here said during a previous argument about trannies (dammit, we've had multiple arguments about trannies and that's just kinda sad) that in some cases transgendered men will actually have two X chromosomes, or women will have a Y in there. So by some freak hormonal accident the body developed in two different directions but the brain was right all along. Something like that. Can't be arsed to look it up though. Lord only knows what kind of Lit Crit babble they'll have on Wiki's page for "transgendered" itself.

Unless you count the word "trannies" as intrinsically disrespectful (which I guess it is to some people, but eh, it's shorter to type than 'transgendered'--suppose I could say TG though), I haven't disparaged them in any way, at least in this thread. I've mellowed towards them lately. Generally I don't think of them as "freaks" but rather "poor mixed-up people" or something similar; I rarely meet one, but the last one I met inspired pity rather than revulsion or hate. It must suck to hate your own body that way. Except for flamboyant drag-queen types, who I imagine would be simply annoying if I ever had to deal with one in person. Haven't yet--knock on wood.

(I've expressed abundant disdain for PoMos here, but I have a great deal of experience with them and think they deserve all of the disdain I can feel, if not more)
