Technically it did as the stand your ground law in Florida changed what the jury instructions were even if the defense didn't invoke stand your ground. Literally, by state law the judge had to read to the jury the prepared script passed by that law so, yeah, it was in their via the back door.

They read a lot of things in jury instructions that have no bearing on the trial. Stand Your Ground was not invoked by the defense, nor the jury (based on the interview the juror just gave), because the defense argued Zimmerman could not have escaped. So there was no relevance to the provision in the jury instruction..

It's distressing but unsurprising to see liberals try to ditch rule of law and advocate what is clearly double jeopardy. Interesting to see the reversal from 30 years ago. Conservatives and liberals have flipped on free speech and due process, it seems.
