No, no it wasn't. The reality is as the war has dragged on the number of moderates has decreased and the number of extremists has increased especially since the Islamists have received funding weapons from the Gulf while the moderates have not received weapons from the west. The CIA has carefully vetted moderate groups so that all the weapons go to just one group of non-Islamists who supposedly have the best credentials for supporting a moderate western style democracy. Can they insure absolutely none of the weapons ever end up in the hands of extremists? No, but they can insure they only give the weapons to moderate pro-democracy groups (specifically just the one authorized group) and that invalidates your claim that Obama is some how giving weapons to Al Qaeda affiliated Islamist groups because factually that is just not true.

The current policy is designed to bulster the power of moderates in opposition to the extremists and that is the exact opposite of your previous claim.
