    • Yeah but that doesn't mean they wind up on welfare. You don't need a diploma to mow my lawn.

That is the demographic (aside from some absurdly small ones) most likely to be able to find jobs in the US currently. Those sorts of jobs are also the easiest ones to create in a sustainable manner.

As opposed to small arms fire, grenades, and anti personell mines that have killed and maimed far more civilians via ricochet, straybullets and shrapnel effects then the hypothetical drone missile attacks.

But because the trigger that is pulled is safely behind a monitor out of harms reach it suddenly becomes less humane and hence less ethical.

At least this way the inevitable atrocities of war can be blamed on the faceless men in government as opposed to the individual soldiers.

Not really those are the most volatile jobs. During recovery yes there may be a tendency to use and fill these position in short term. During down turns however, these are the positions most likely to be cut. Employers by and large do not want to have to recruit highly skilled positions and/or have to retrain personnel to fill highly trained positions hence the highly skilled/trained positions are typically the last to be cut.

              • Why should it be skewed toward Mexicans when Mexico isn't even the biggest ****hole in the region? Shouldn't it be skewed toward filling the US with poor as **** Guatemalans or Haitians?

Without this imagined stereotype, Republicans wouldn't be able to blindly oppose something they don't understand.

That doesn't really answer the question though.

It's not that it's less humane than the alternative, it's that the decision to pull the trigger is more likely to be made if you have fewer risks to self.

It's a bit like abusing people on the Internet. You're more likely launch a fire and forget personal attack on a forum through the ether than you are in regular conversation in person.

I have no real concerns over drones, but would acknowledge that as the valid argument

I think you have that completely backwards. Being in risk of your life makes you more likely to think of your own safety first, and in a firefight that means anybody who is not known becomes a target.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

                              • Mixed metaphor.

The point I was making was that if you had a choice of sending in troops or doing nothing, you may decide to do nothing most times. If you have a choice of lobbing a missile from a drone or doing nothing, you may decide to take a punt most times.

If you HAVE to do something, drones all the way.
