I think it comes down to why aren't the parents giving them a butter knife (or why don't they take one from home). But really, not being able to buy knives under the age of 16 does..what, precisely? Between the ages of 12 and 15 why not just take a butter knife from home? Other knives...yeah, don't really want kids in gangs buying knives...

What else are you going to use a gun for? Opening cans? Changing the channel on your TV?

I have never once shot a person with my gun. Or an animal, for that matter, although there's nothing wrong with that (if it's in season). I have shot lots of bits of clay and paper, though.

This is the situation for the vast majority of firearms.

So essentially you don't use it.

Well, one of them, I have two firearms in my apartment right now.

            • Going back to can openers, how often to you use them?

              • Since like 90% of my diet is canned and frozen food, all the time.

edit: oh btw awesome trick for eating peas from a can, just dremel some holes in an old spoon, that way you can spoon it right out of the can and let the water drain back into the can.

Oddly enough, my Cub Scout knife had locking blades, for safety reasons I suppose.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

                  • Yes. Lockblades are way safer than non-locking blades. This whole draconian "WELL WHY DO YOU NEED IT?" bull**** just emphasizes how little the euros care about freedom. You don't need an affirmative reason to have something, for god's sake. That's what freedom is all about--no one gets to second guess your judgement about why you want something or if you should want something.

                    • We have the freedom to stop kids from stabbing each other. I like our freedom more.

We (as a society) value some things more than pure and total freedom. That isn't a right or wrong issue, those are concepts decided upon as a society through governments (which I find ironic considering some politicians views on society). Ultimately, that is why exile, death, solitary confinement, prison and a bunch of others exist as concepts in the rehabilitation of offenders.

                        • Freedom is more than an individual right that we enjoy out of preference. Freedom is also limiting the power of the government. Perhaps there are some good policies that are prevented by our tight limitations on the power of our government, but these limitations do far more to prevent excesses and abuses. I don't trust my government to be as benevolent in the future as it is now. But I trust that we will be able to prevent an evil American government (mostly) from doing evil things to Americans.

                            • If it makes you feel any better, I had a grilled strip steak and a sweet potato tonight.

But most of the time, frozen chicken fingers, a potato or instant rice, and some canned vegetables is my dinner. <10 minutes of nuking and it's done.

More importantly, canned and frozen food lasts forever, so I can go grocery shopping as little as once every two weeks.
