I always add the 'could' because it's not confirmed yet but the numbers are so vast that it seems basically impossible that its not the case. When I look out at the night sky that thought that there are countless other species out there in the void is a very calming one. I'd actually find it extremely disturbing if it was ever shown that life only existed on this planet. Ironically it's also possibly the one thing that would make me believe in a higher power.

The probability of intelligent life on other planets is extremely low even if the universe is infinite. But I find it interesting that you are comforted by the thought that things just happen for no reason. Then anything can happen, no?
