I imagine the loss or impairment of such an important sense would be have a difficult adjustment period... perhaps leading to severe depression and maybe suicide in some cases. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Ben because, while not knowing exactly, I can imagine how difficult his experience may be at times.

I saw my dad have a stroke when i was 5 years old. He was paralyzed on his right side for the rest of his life and had severe speech aphasia. I've seen first hand the strength that it takes to deal with such challenges.

Despite his despicable moral and political beliefs, BK is an okay guy. To my knowledge, he's never committed a violent crime or ruined someone's life by stealing or anything. The stuff he says is just hot air to me. He has opinions. He's in an extreme minority. With politics and all that, he may as well be banging his head up against a brick wall of sanity. I seriously doubt one of Ben's beliefs or opinions will ever affect me or become public policy. He's harmless.

And when I call him names, he's smart enough to know it's because I disagree with him. He doesn't get all whiny and emo like I kicked his dog down a flight of stairs.

So BK's cool in my book.

Hey I like Ben a lot and the hearing loss thing must be savage. I don't see him complaining about it either, which always gets you bonus points in the respect round.

My developing theory is he had a disapproving father and that's why he stalks particular people like MTG.

AFAIK Ben isn't disliked by anyone, the normal people anyway...which is pretty amazing cos he works quite hard at being deliberately annoying sometimes...
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

The little worm can go **** himself. The "everyone's had your mother" line crossed a line no decent human being crosses, let alone a self-professed Christian zealot. AFAIK, he's just a two-bit holier than thou religious hypocrite. As the saying goes, I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

Actually it's a fairly common burn that most people don't get that upset about.

Actually, Ben has trotted out his hearing loss several times to try to score points with it.

Whether it's fairly common or not among the high school and frat boy crowd doesn't really concern me. People I know can give me **** about all sorts of things, and it's given and taken in stride. Some snotnosed punk behind a keyboard hasn't earned the right. So he can go **** himself.

I don't get upset about it, any more than I get upset (more irritated at the cleaning bill) about some drunk homeless type puking on my jacket. I just choose not to waste time on dealing with someone of that ilk.

I may call you or other posters all sorts of stuff in fun, but I don't know the circumstances or situations of your (or most anyone else's) family members, so I'm not going to post anything about them one way or another. Your bit about selling the trailer to my mom was actually funny. I laughed at that one. That's one big difference - people can be funny about stuff, or they can just be asswipes. Eager beaver zealot doesn't understand the difference.

Honestly, I don't think what I said was funny. I don't think what BK said was funny either. Maybe he gets pissed off about the way he is treated around here.

It was a good trash-talkin' comeback. Not highbrow comedy, but it fit.

Maybe he does, but he brings it on. He's not so stupid that he doesn't understand when he twists and misquotes others, or when he outright lies. He does that with great frequency, so it's either constant trolling without humor, or its just fundamental dishonesty. **** like "professor Kidicious" and "I have a degree. What's your degree in?" ad nauseum with multiple posters are other examples. He is unique in that he manages to irritate at best and alienate at worst more people here than just about anyone in the history of this forum, and that's saying a lot.

No argument there. I don't really remember what he used to be like, but I do think he used to be better. I'm pretty sure about that. I'm not a collectivist, but this whole forum has gone to hell really.

People move on. It's nowhere near as active as it used to be, but after close to 15 years online, it's surprising there's as many people still here.
