What does that matter? You're condemning an entire group for a stereotype you hold of them.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

          So?

Doesn't prevent you from being bigotted or otherwise prejudiced simply by having some first hand exposure.

Fun, MRT, you're being stupid. Farmers have nothing to do with gay marriage. Get the stick out of your asses.

When I lash out against rural culture in general, it's with the memories I have, of what I have seen/heard in regard to people's perceptions of certain minority groups.

Of course not everyone who is rural is bigoted/narrow minded. All of my immediate family fully accept me, for example. But I don't care much for my uncles, aunts, and most of my cousins.

Right, but that was aimed at MRT.

Equating the dislike of pandering to a group of professionals to the dislike of gays is ****ing ridiculous.

I do like family farmers and wish them the best but I wonder if there isn't a bunch of nostalgia clouding our judgement as there are almost no family farmers left yet we pass $200 billion a year in farm subsidies and insurance subsidies (almost twice what we spend for welfare) most of which just goes to like 3-5 corporations. If they're so damn noble why did most of them go out of business and why do the remaining (corporate dominated) farmers CONSTANTLY demand freeby handouts from the government? How about they justify their continued economic existence without dipping into Uncle Sugar's pocket every 5 minutes? Just saying.

Stating the obvious, family farmers are an endangered entity. The how is varied in reason but often derives from the farm subsidy arrangments (long term fallow areas) making the decision whether to pass the farm from generation to generation a moot point even before discussions of inheritance taxation. At some point it becomes more viable to simply rent out what land is available (often to larger agriculatural concerns) and idle the rest (for subsidy paymnet). When the decision becomes a point of one generation staying on to work the farm or go onto other pursuits, Uncle Sugar has made it (as he has done it so many instances) less likely for small businesses and start ups to survive. Meanwhile the big corps either carve out their own exemptions or have scale/resources enough to deal with the ever intruding scope of governemntal involvements.

Your point about the nostalgia of the commercial is an obvious conclusion, but the intention is exactly that; a call to work ethic and self reliance. Two aspects sorely lacking and to be reinforced/reaffirmed where possible. It especially plays well with the target audience of truck buyers.

They sold out because not everyone likes working 16 hours a day and getting squeeze in the marketplace by the big boys.
