I love how Oggie is currently trying to pretend that the sky isn't blue and that water isn't wet.

I don't know the purpose of the using the term "family," unless it's just to avoid using the term "christian." But it does seem anti-gay, and anti-single for that matter. It also might lead some to think, "hey, I'm a moral person, because I'm a mother or a father." Well, yeah, except most parents suck, and that's the real root of every problem in this country.

Unfortunately my understanding of the term is how it was originally intended. It was traditionally considered a positive term akin to "baseball", "apple pie", "support the troops" etc. Only thanks to those intending to make charicature of it did we arrive at its current perjorative connotation. Even so, those who use it today in political terms on the stump, do not do so to advertise hate mongering (as they wish to stay away from those devisive topics as much as possible) but moreso as my understanding of the definition applies. It is my belief there is no intended dog whistle, its the same trope always used by both parties without any special meaning. However, to those looking for any excuse to hate the opposition, it conjurs images of Dana Carvey's Church Lady, or Hackman's Senator Keeley. Sad and pathetic how hate takes hold.

So you feel like a victim of the anti-bigotry agenda?

Are you referring to groups like the Family Research Council? Westboro Baptist Church? Rick Santorum?

If anything, you should be mad at those people for promoting so called "family values". Hollywood and the librul media aren't to blame my friend.

I want to make a clarification and distance myself from Sava. I believe in values, and don't want to be associated with someone who's avatar is a butt.

Sexual desire is as pro-family as you can get. How do you think you got here?

You seem to be naive in your understanding of "family values." Have you ever heard of Focus on the Family's bigoted, anti-gay agenda? With the goal of dehumanizing gay people, as if they are not human enough to have families of their own?

The "family values" bigots I speak of, are generally in favor of repressing and suppressing sexual freedom overall. They know that sex is fun, but gosh, they also think it's a sign of our country's moral "degeneration" with the attitude of, "if it feels good, do it."

You're either being grossly facetious, or you're being particularly naive in this discussion. And since when does speaking out against bigotry (such as what I do), make one bigoted?

Is it bigoted for people to speak out against the Ku Klux Klan for an example?

I grew up in a small town myself. Most people in my hometown are not violently racist or homophobic, but it's certainly there in it's tone.

Your reference to rural values of things like "community," or "neighbors helping one another," only go as far as including other white, Christian, straight people for a lot of the people who still live in my hometown.

They would even see people like blacks denied the chance to work hard and earn their living but gosh darn it, those darn federal equal rights and civil rights laws ......

I already know how many people in my hometown would "welcome" a black family, should one ever even try to move into that town. Quite a few would simply ignore them, and quietly ostracize the family.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Rejected by whom? They are the core of the "family values" movement. They own it!

Sadly, your personal idea of "family values" doesn't represent the actual "family values" movement. But that's the media's fault, right?
