They don't really live by what they spew out of their mouths, but yes, that's what it essentially is all about; "non-reproductive sex is bad, okay?" They fear that someone, somewhere is having fun (even though many of them do such things themselves, hence, hypocrisy).

There are plenty who actually believe that way.

In any case, you'd be hard pressed to find a "family values" type who would publicly condone paid phone sex. They get up in arms about the Simpsons, video games that show boobies, or talking about condoms. (You do live in America right? How is it you don't know of these "family values" types?)

Not only do I live in America I had the good fortune of being raised in rural America and thus have a unique insight into the minds of these so called "family values" types. It's almost a universal that folks understand that sex is fun. The view that it be in the public view is where the issue arises. Seeing as this was a private matter ('cept for the abuse of public funds and use of public owned cellphone and cellphone charges) its a big nothing burger. (Unless it is shown that it involves something of a harmful nature, pederasty etc.)

I was also raised in rural America, and have met plenty of people who view masturbation as a sin, and would view phone sex as a form of adultery and/or pornography (also viewed a sin) in it's own right.

("Family values" is not limited to rural America though. I met some in SoCal who make my Mormon upbringing look lewd and tawdry by comparison. I guess when surrounded by Satan's chosen overcompensation is natural.)

"Family values" in politics is code for a more extreme Christian morality though. No gay marriage, no abortion, abstinence only education, ect. A lot of rural people certainly aren't "family values" types even if they are more likely to vote for candidates who also pander to the Christian right due to the absurdity that is our two party system.

I see your problem. Your definition of "family values" is out of step with how it is commonly used in politics and popular culture. I fully support your effort to take back the phrase from those that wish to use it as an excuse to persecute gay people. However, I'm pessimistic about the prospect of success.
