In the first movie, whipping was used as a military punishment. Hmmmm. I think that narrows it down a bit. That phrase is most associated with two performers in particular, one of whom has made relatively few films, and one of whom has made relatively many. (Though, obviously, several other performers of the same... lineage... have used the phrase in the same context.)
