They could although I doubt that would help them cope with changing demographics. They should just move left on everything.

Indonesia and Malaysia then, in this case. By the way, are Indonesians, Malaysians and Philippino Asian in this system of yours? Are Moroccans Middle Eastern? Bosnians? Tatars?

        • I have never known any Moroccans, Bosnians, or Tatars, so I'm not going to comment on that.

I knew a couple Filipinos at TJ. They considered themselves "asian" so I'd go with that. But the point remains that if we're going to lump people together by continent, "Asian" should be split into the Far East, India etc.

                • This may actually shock someone in the GOP into abandoning the cult of Zombie Reagan. As for the changes they need to make to be palatable to the general population (as opposed to the changes I'd like them to make), they need to get friendly with Latinos, fast. They're a rapidly-growing segment of the population and they're still mostly religious; if the GOP can win them over, it'll have a lot more pull. Also, they need to rediscover the more populist brands of conservatism. Drop or downplay the stupid tax-phobia and alliance to large business interests, at least until the economy recovers and people forget to hate corporations so much. The decline of the modern family is a powerful issue the GOP could use far more effectively than social-libertarian Democrats could, the more so because it affects the poor much more than the rich. The trick is reframing it so it doesn't sound like they're bashing single mothers.

Social issues really aren't the albatross a lot of people think they are. Last I heard, the youngest cohort of Americans were actually the most pro-life segment of the population. As for gay issues, they are, for both parties, a political sideshow. Lots of people care about them, but not as much as they care about the economy or jobs or scary foreign people. The Republicans' main problem is that too many of them can't talk about these issues without jamming their feet in their mouths.

EDIT/PS: In my experience, Latinos don't much care for gays. Generally speaking, of course.

You guys are aware that India has the single largest population of Muslims on Earth, right?

Huh. While I'll be damned. That must have changed in the last census. Mea culpa; my larger point remains, however.

                            • Last election the Greens nominated a suspected anti-semite (not Jill Stein) . In the meantime, Gary Johnson is by far the best candidate the LP has ever put forward.
