Why didn't Governor of Massachusetts Romney run instead of Republican Primary Candidate Romney?

Though, and lets be honest, the War on Woman theme REALLY took off after Akin's comments. Beforehand, from what I remember of polling, it seemed like most people just saw it as electioneering (Romney didn't really talk about abortion at all). However, after Akin's comments the gap grew big time. Though I could be remembering wrong.

          • Its pretty funny to see republicans loss there ****. But sadly i have to inform you that you can calm down. What everone seems to forget is that Obama is ridiculously good at elections.
Dude have so much swagger he could probly feed starving kenyans whit it. The fact that he barly beat the worst candidate since Walter Mondale should give you hope for the future.

Do you really think McCain would have lost to Hillary?

            • Maybe Republicans should as how the best moderate Republican candidate wasn't even running for their party.

Seriously how can you even write this post? Do you not comprehend your complete failure to understand what I wrote? Or are you being a dishonest **** like you always are in abortion threads?

                      • What MRT was basically saying is that Republicans lost because they failed to elect someone who's not a Republican. Even if this were true, the GOP does not run candidates purely for the sake of someone with the banner of the GOP occupying the White House. Nominating someone who does not support the preferences of the party's mainstream is self-defeating.

                          • No, they're not done though they will have to go through their time in the wilderness before they can begin winning national elections again. The crazies and extremists who currently control the party make it impossible for them to win on a national level and it won't be until they lose continuously for about a decade or more before those losers will be so discredited that the rank and file finally turn on them and move back towards the center. The alternative is that the Republican Party shrinks down to a rural regional party in the south with outposts in the midwest.

I think it will turn out much like how the conservative party in Canada has changed. After getting beaten over and over the conservatives in Canada decided to ditch the religious nonsense, stop being so anglo focused, stopped with the social wedge issues and instead decided to focus mainly on economics. Now the conservative party is back in Canada. The Republicans in the US will simply have to do the same thing eventually; the raving loons of the religious right will get pushed out of the driver's seat and a more pragmatic centrist group will take the helm focusing on practical matters instead of the vote losing culture war nonsense.

What does your friend-the-adopted-Chinese-girl have to do with abortion?

Everyone of us alive was not aborted.

I would be upset if I was aborted, if I were capable of being upset.

I'd also be upset if I was never fertilized, which is why I'm all for criminalizing masturbation and contraception.

                              • The thing that brought the Republican Party back to power after so many years of being relatively marginal was the adoption of a socially conservative platform in the '80s. I do not buy your notion at all that the "religious nonsense" results in lost votes in a country that is overwhelmingly religious. Key growing demographics are more religious than the country as a whole, for instance hispanics. So are blacks.
