  • A middle ground is only reasonable if it is actually preferable to either of the extremes. An assault weapons ban, while some here have said means banning fully automatic weapons, usually refers to just the "furniture" of the gun. Does it have a pistol-like handgrip? Does it have a detachable magazine? These things are not actually terribly important to the lethality or danger of the weapon, and are trivial to modify for a criminal if they decide that they really need a forward hand grip for their rampage.

They certainly give you an edge in combat; there is a reason soldiers have them on their weapons. But that edge is fairly irrelevant against civilians.

    • No, but I would bet that there are quite a few people would would support a ban on assault weapons if they weren't brainwashed that it was just first step towards total restrictions on all weapons.
I'm talking more general common sense. How many babies would you save if you restricted abortions 20 seconds before birth. I would bet 0, and I doubt you'd find many pro-lifers that would have a big problem with it except for the fact that they would think if they agree to that restriction, it opens the door for many more restrictions.

Unless you know the civilians are packing too.

        • Civilians don't "pack" assault rifles

Hard to fit them into a concealed-carry case

I always thing a violin case has a 50/50 chance of containing a sub machine gun.

Really hard to fit ARs and AKs in a violin case, and most Americans don't have submachine guns because they are restricted NFA items.

Even semi-automatic carbines like Kel-tecs are not common, but in that case because Kel-tec only makes like 5 of them a year. :P
