  • Playing on Classic, it's pretty amusing to hear my retarded underlings go on and on about how scary Ethereals are. I've seen three of them. My assault has shot each of them execution style in the back of the head, using rapid fire, an alloy cannon and ghost armor, before the faggy princesses knew I was even there.

    • And why are they always getting a blowjob from a Muton every time I find them hiding in the UFO's bedroom?

      • OK, I beat the game in normal. Back to be clobbered in classic now.

BTW, is there a chance to not getting your guys mind controlled? The one with the lowest will was in the high 80s, but still...

The scariness of ethereals is significantly reduced by the fact that they always appear in very predictable and confined locations. If they occurred in patrols, or on any mission besides a UFO shootdown/landing, they'd be much more dangerous.

          • What can they do? They never live long enough in my games to do a single action, other than blowjobbing.

            • They can mind control you, they occasionally deflect your shots back at you, and they have fairly powerful psionic attacks which do damage and ****. You only see more than one on the big UFOs and in the final mission. If you can kill them in two turns then you're pretty safe and you can usually kill them in one.

              • I was a bit unlucky in the final mission, as I triggered the Ethereals with the last move of my squad, and they got a full turn, so three of my guys got MC'd. I did manage to free two of them the following turn, and kill the third one on the third turn.

                • You only have to kill the middle ethereal on the final mission. Everyone around it instantly dies when it does.

They can mind control your men, have a chance to reflect (reduced) damage back at their attackers, and can use offensive psionic powers, including Rift.

If you don't kill them quickly, they can **** your **** up good.

                      • Having three UFOs appear in 4 days seems a LITTLE BIT UNFAIR.

One of them is the battleship, which I'm going to do in spite of having wounded men, because I want the blaster launcher.

                        • I waited three months for three damn UFOs to finish researching stuff. I had a big pile of light plasmas but lacking in weapon fragments.

Just break them the **** down!

                          • That is something I'd like to see, actually; the ability to break down your own weapons into weapon fragments would be most welcome.

                            • I've just realized, if you want the blaster launcher, the battleship appears after you hit the stealth UFO and you ignore a UFO landing.
