Squadsight + overwatch has some interesting, if unexpected qualities. I had my chosen sniper overwatch from in front of the large scout class, and she shot the outsider through the front door, then through 2 walls when he moved. I think she deserved the promotion she got from that shot.

Defeat.
This game is really hard. Started promising but after losing a fireteam of all Sergeants+, it all went downhill and I finished 8-5. I simply had no money and no men.
It's the strategic game that's tough. The ground game isn't bad but once there's mutons and chrysallids, it's apparent squadies and rookies with starting weapons and armor are doomed, hence again, the strategic game is critical.

No tips on the strategic game? I'm not an idiot so I didn't completely bungle the start unless there's a very set order way you must spend money in the early game on Classic?
This was my build order:
Alien Containment Facility
Elevator (to get to steam)
Thermo-generator
Satellite Uplink
I didn't time my satellites with my uplink quite right (cash flow problem) but it was already a losing battle on the ground by then.
Maybe I should have not bothered with elevator, excavation of steam tile, and thermo-generator before I built the uplink, building a regular power plant instead then the uplink:
Alien Containment Facility
Power Plant
Satellite Uplink
Elevator
Thermo-generator
Delete Power Plant (when no longer needed to make room for another uplink)
Research order:
Xeno-Biology
Arc Thrower
Autopsy
Interrogate
Alien Materials
Autopsy

It's all about the satellites. Having one ready before your first council report is pretty important and if you don't get an uplink and 3 new satellites up in your second (or at the very latest 3rd) month, you're probably going to struggle not to lose countries.
As for power, just stick a normal one in at first but if you've got steam somewhere below then you can always plan ahead for the adjacency bonus.
