You mean his strategy for getting re-elected is to act in the interests of a majority of the population and then explain to them how he has acted in their interests? And this is fundamentally different from spamming "are you better of than you were four years ago" ad infinitum?

It's certainly in stark contrast to the GOP's perpetual tactic of fearmongering to the Christian right on specific issues for their votes. Right?

If you want to select a President based on whether he panders to your specific special needs, then you're part of the problem, not part of the solution.

It's a simple fact of politics. People care about things that effect their lives. It's always been that way and it always will be.

And this is where the American experiment ends: with Oprah being elected President on a promise of a free car for everyone.

                          • A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.

My wife and I have a running arguement about who has influenced society more Oprah or Bill Gates. Being the white male that I am without any appreciation for Oprah, I always default to Bill Gates but do often wonder how big an effect Oprah has.

I mean on the one hand you have Bill Gates, who without his advances, we wouldn't have internet porn. OTOH you have Oprah who has provided an equal level of gratification to her women viewers, not to mention creating the abomination known as The View.
