Even in Virginia people would recognise that word as the equivalent of the "N" word. It's been banned for decades. When I was in medical school I had two roomies from Louisiana, one white, one "high yaller". The white guy kept calling the black guy a "coon ass". Funny thing is the black guy finished, the white guy didn't.
"I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

Not sure what this has to do with Virginia...?

BTW, I've never actually heard anyone say "coon ass". Only read it in a novel about cajuns.

Dude, about 1/3 of the American populace are gunowners. Of that number, a great many do not go to the range that often. The Shotgun either sits in the closet or the handgun sits in the nightstand.

I reiterate, "In Wales does 'virtually the entire____' mean the same thing as '1/3'"?

And shooting guns is Fun, like driving fast cars, riding motorcycles, etc. Do you yell and froth at the mouth "HURRRGH SECRETLY GAY" whenever Top Gear comes on?

Even the people that are supposedly responsible in your country are far too trigger-happy - like the Empire State incident! Like all the US military friendly fire incidents - your armed forces are well known for being considered indiscriminately trigger-happy since at least WWII...
Don't confuse "trigger-happy" with "looser ROE".

Not really, no, I don't think so with your country, sadly enough...
Quite a bit. You couldn't even be arsed to figure out how much of the American public owns firearms and you decided to throw phrases like "virtually the entire populace" around.

The Straight Dope: 'Fighting ignorance since 1973'...

That entire article is a tour de force in ignorance! Virtually the whole article is wrong, especially the Tony Martin piece (apparently the only story they could find on this subject) which seems to have been twisted out of all proportion to suit the fallacy that the UK is a far more dangerous place to live than the US!
Now would be a good time for you to admit that you didn't read it very closely. It Tony Martin was referenced because it was asked about.

          • All this talk of shooting has given me a hard on. I'm heading off to the range to shoot my incredibly violent appliance.

It's black fiber glass with a scope on it, so MOBIUS probably thinks it's a "military style assault weapon".

Putting the Tony Martin bit completely aside, the article says 'Violent crime jumped by two-thirds between 1998 and 2003'. That is a complete lie.

He's confused by the fact that in 1998 they changed the way crime figures were calculated.

I don't actually know why there was such a big spike there. Maybe it was a bad year for reality TV or something.

We probably counted crime differently that year and then realised that wasn't such a good idea after all.

You might want to try looking at articles not written in 2004. Guess what's happened to the crime rates since then?
