No, that's also juvenile--the "pro-murder" label, that is. Not exactly douchey, though. I'd use words like "fanatical" or "self-defeating."

It's amusement to me because it reminds me of why I renounced my American citizenship.

What I described is largely an American phenomenon. We don't even debate abortion in Canada anymore. Even the Conservatives won't touch the issue.

Luckily neither you nor MrFun are actually amused; the word is simply shorthand for "masturbating to my own sense of perceived intellectual superiority" in this context. Now I'm going to go ahead and put the both of you on ignore; have somebody poke me when you grow up.
I'm genuinely amused that this tantrum of yours wherein you plug your ears and avoid the debate is an example of maturity.

It doesn't matter if we call it a child, a toddler, a baby or a fetus.
I have a lot of sympathy for pro-choice people and especially for women who are in a difficult situation and are making a choice I would not make.
But I seriously have little respect for the entire "if we name it differently we can kill it after all" attitude.

Why don't you just say: "It's a terrible thing to kill a fetus because it's a human being, but I value the freedom for the mother to choose higher then the life of a human being in the fetus stadium because it's not born yet and not sensible or self aware yet" or something.

The entire "let say it's not a child but a fetus" thing in fact just shows that you're a bit in difficult with the situation yourself as well.
I'm not labeling the piece of meat on my plate suddenly "Chak" b/c I want to distinquis it from a living "chicken". I'm just eating chicken, because I do not value the life of the chicken higher then my need for meat. It doesn't hurt my conscience to do so. Does it hurt you a bit if we say that we kill a child in it's mothers womb? Or can you just plainfully say: "Yes, I agree, but that's the choice I have made and I value the choice of the mother above the life of the child, whatever you name it"

A fetus is a human being in an early state, like a teenager is one in a more developped state and an elderly is one in it's late state.
There's no human being on earth that was never a fetus. Being a fetus is an essential part of being a human being.
And if a fetus is a parasite, then humanity is a parasite because we all only are able to live b/c we once parasited on our mother. All of us.

Most people, and especially all sane people think it's worst to kill a baby or a toddler. We cry the most if a little child has been mollested and when children are murdered our society is shocked. We say "women and children first" if there's danger. We say that every child deserves the right to grow into something of his own chosing. We are against child labor, etc.
But if it's about a child in it's early state, then suddenly that all doesn't matter. Then we can simply kill it.

I can see that someone makes that choice. The pro-choice opinion isn't without valid arguments.
My problem with the pro-choice movement is not so much that they made a different decision on their opinion. My problem is that apparently they can make this very hard decision without much emotion, and they can't hardly understand why pro-life people think differently.
It all sounds like it's an easy choice. Sometimes I get the feeling that (some) pro choice people have more difficulty to eat meat then to abort fetusses. How is that possible!? (mind you: I'm not talking about women who are into abortion, to them it is a very careful difficult choice they make)

So tell me, pro-choice people, is it really a difficult choice you had to make? Do you understand pro-life people, even value their arguments eventhough you consider your arguments to be more valuable? Or is it an easy decision. Just kill it b/c it's not a child yet anyway.
There is significant, qualitative differences between a human fetus and a human child. Hence, why I do not believe that murdering a child is the same as a woman who was raped, choosing to have her fetus aborted.

There are signficant, qualitative differences between men and women. Should we treat them differently?

                    • I'll be quite honest- I'd struggle to call this a "child".

I don't really have an opinion on whether or not they should. If someone wanted to set up a competition between the best humans, period, then that would be great. But because sports are arbitrary by their very nature, I have no problem with sports competitions between only men, or only women, or only individuals of a certain weight range, or only competitors who don't take drugs, etc. Sports are about measuring success within the confines of a particular set of rules. Depending on the kind of success you're trying to measure, the rules can be anything you like.

Are you asking if we should cater to those with special needs? I think we should.
