I don't see how "doesn't hurt" = "All about home team advantage (having more participants than any other country)"

I would guess GB will get between the Beijing and London final tally in Rio. Golds will become Silvers logic. Not Brass to Muck.

Actually the real question is whether the automatic qualifier would have qualified anyway and since they don't have to, you really can't say for sure. We have witnessed strange things in the past.

Yes, it happens a lot. Especially in the 96 games hosted in Atlanta. The Men's basketball team won gold. (yes the would have probably qualified anyway ) There were quite a few examples that year. I'm sure the same could be said whenever the games were in Russia or China.

I never said they were =. But it's one of the reason you have more participants.

In Atlanta GB got 1 gold; After 1920 and before 2000 GB never got more than 10 golds in a single Olympics.

I class Beijing as absolutely our best Olympic performance by far (before 2012), 1908 was a completely different era and home advantage and being able to field people in all events really was a game changer. Unlike now.

I agree it's an outlying and misleading data point, didn't want to seem to be cherry-picking though.
