Guys, Imran lives in Atlanta, Georgia, not rural Georgia.

Incidentally my dad's law firm is based in Atlanta. I've been there a couple times, I think it's a nice city

Um ... weren't you (and presumably your wife) roughly that age when you got married?

I was under the impression you were roughly ~30 and got married ~2005 (though I'm very fuzzy on that date, just remember it was quite a while ago...)

Thought he was in Savannah...? Ah well, still much lower COL.

I've been there a few times for work-related stuff. It sucks.

Entry level lawyering tends to suck (not for those who are at the top of their class of course)
You really just have no idea what you are talking about.

I would not consider that to be relatively well. As an fyi, everybody I know with a Jd is making 160+ (living in nyc). That is relatively well, though not spectacular.
If your friends tell you they are enjoying being biglaw associates (especially in new york) they are either lying or really, really uninteresting people. When they are counseled out their salaries will crash.

Here's what top of the class at all law schools except Yale and Harvard gets you: $160,000, workweeks ranging from 80-100 hours, constant pressure to bill even when taking a dump, having sex or taking a shower, seamlessweb to make getting fat completely effortless, a parade of dull and mostly unnecessary assignments that exist solely to help partners defraud clients, obnoxious coworkers who brag about having access to a car service when hitting on women, and an addiction to horrid, pretentious blogs like Above the Law that remind you instantaneously of every grisly associate suicide and stealth layoff that occurs is the continental united states.

And probably stupid **** that reminds them that they're lawyers.

My parents got married around that age, not much older anyway. Why's that a big deal?

If I had to pick a poster I would never work as a butler for, it would be you.

If I got a law degree I would go for JAG in the Army. Shorter work weeks, they pay your loans, and you start off court-martialing kids for meth on day 1.

A friend of mine did that but they did not pay off his loans. It was Marines. I'm pretty sure they don't pay off the loans anymore, or maybe that's just Marines. He likes his life far more than any biglaw associate I ever knew ever did.
