      • Wiggy, why aren't you letting this thread die?

Sorry to keep this thread going, but I just saw it and this is a very dangerous attitude to take IMO--especially for someone who hasn't been Christian for all that long. Not that I haven't had it myself, but I try not to.

Also, kudos to Moby for the sensible post 14.

          • I merely meant in the exploration of the faith for deeper and richer meanings rather than confine to simplistic and literalist notions. Not saying that everyone who is an evangelical or Pentecostal has simplistic faith, but there is less push for deeper exploration of what Scripture means and what is trying to be told. What frustrated me is that she didn't seem like she wanted to grow - but tread water & what bothered me is that, exactly right, I haven't been a Christian for that long and I felt I was reaching further.

            • If you've just entered a field of study and you feel you know more about it than people who have been immersed in it their whole lives, you are very probably wrong. Not necessarily, but very probably--regardless of the field. How many first-year physics students revolutionize the science?

I'm not saying I know more than the majority of Christians, or most of them, or significant quantities of them. Not even at the same church. But at some point in some one-on-one friendship/relationship you start to realize who is teaching who and how or why that has switched.

For most people, their religion is not a field of study.

They want to come down and see me and I they still know I'm a Christian, but they miss me and want to come down right away (easier since apparently my dad retired since the last time I spoke to them).

But that's probably not practical since you mention apartments

Most christian don't honestly try to understand the Bible. It's not a serious undertaking for them. They may be a christian for 20 or 30 years and they still believe exactly the same way they did when they started. But the real problem is that they act exactly like they did when they started too.
