    Never had AC.

In SoCal, even on the hottest days I was fine without AC.

In Utah swamp coolers work very well.

Here I just need air movement. A 30W fan is what I use when there isn't any wind. Keeps the mosquitoes at bay too. I use it often for that purpose only. Without air movement I sweat too much for evaporation to keep up with on hot days. I don't much care about the heat, but the moisture can be bothersome even with very light exercise.

Yeah, well at some point it is more practical for the chilly party to put on more clothing than for the over-warm party to put on less clothing...

Women in less clothing is never a problem for me.

I'd ask if you live where I live but the temperature range is more 72 in summer and 70 in winter plus I know you're a low down dirty Texan. So you must be lying.

I'm like Aeson. Never had A/C. Why do you need it?

We'll be in the high 90's this week in Philly which is typical. I honestly have no need or desire for A/C. I even go running in the heat.

I think people really are pussies. Sorry, but unless you're elderly, I don't see how you can't handle 90-100F and need an A/C.

Homo Sapiens Sapiens is a tropical species. We are built for the heat.

As someone whose family has been in Canada since the 1700s, I disagree.

I can handle the cold, but I'm definitely not built for heat. You're the opposite.

It's not a matter of not handling it. I can survive without it. But why? It's much more comfortable to have it. And the cost of it isn't very high at all.

You may think 82F is fine, but I think it's hot. But similarly, 40F is T-shirt weather for me. I don't even consider a spring jacket til it dips below freezing. Somehow I think you'd find that uncomfortable.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen you post, Asher.

Where did our species come from? You think the 40,000 years that we have been out of Africa has been sufficient for us to adapt structurally to other climates? Nope. Skin complexion of a population changes very rapidly but body type is extremely slow. Nordic people should be short and stocky to adapt to the cold weather but are tall and lanky, evidence of their migration <10K years ago from Central Asia. They're still built for hotter climates, despite their lighter features.

Compared to the Neanderthals, hominids who actually were adapted to the cold, our entire sub-species is not adapted to cold environments.

We are a tropical animal. If we weren't, we wouldn't need fire, clothing, and all the benefits of civilization to survive in Canada.

Or do you honestly think you could survive a Canadian winter naked without fire? You can't. You can survive year-round naked without fire in Ethiopia, though.

I run in the winter in a t-shirt and shorts. Only when it's below 32F do I put on long pants, etc. Don't dare presume what I find uncomfortable. I can handle cold just as I can handle heat. The problem with below 32F is that you can't out-tough frost bite. Frost bite will happen with exposure to sub-zero temperatures, no matter how tough you are.

Oh yeah and Asher, I did OCS in the winter. They cracked the ice and sent us through the water.

                      Dozens of guys had hypothermia.

I can handle a little cold.

And I'm pretty sure Lithuania, where half my family has been since time immemorial, is colder than parts of Canada settled since 1700.

But again, I can handle cold as well as heat. Because, frankly, I'm not a *****.

I'm going to take heat for this but 95F-100F doesn't require an A/C. Our ancestors thrived without A/C.

Why be uncomfortable if you don't have to be? Well frankly, you won't be uncomfortable once you get used to it mentally. Your body can handle it physically since we are a tropical species, something I can't re-iterate enough. But even still, I ask why be weak if you don't have to be?

It's true. Since our ancestors didn't keep statistics on how common death from heat exhaustion was, it must not have been a big deal.

Who is getting heat exhaustion walking around their house?

I run in this heat. Regularly. 3 miles at a time.

Our (ALL of us!) paleolithic ancestors were endurance hunters who chased prey for hours in the mid-day heat (yes, mid-day is when they hunted). They did this to survive for millennia. Our bodies are the product of hundreds of thousands of years of tropical adaptation. The few thousand years we have been out of Africa has not changed us sufficiently.

Just because you're like 'eww I'm sweating. Need to turn the A/C on' doesn't mean you would die without the A/C. Our species is well-adapted to tropical climates.

Alby - I break out into a sweat if it's 75F and I don't find 40F to be cold. I become visibly flushed at about 80F. I get sunburned when outside in the summer for about half an hour.

I've lived in California as well, don't tell me that's normal.
