It had to do with stupid people who poured motor oil all over the insulation on the firewall or equally stupid people who failed to replace the clutch tens of thousands of miles after they were supposed to. In any event Chevy is cleaning up after those dumb asses for free and neither of those problems would apply to diesel engine. BTW 50 suspect fires out of at least 500,000 cars of that type built (that's the number GM is recalling) isn't bad and is probably pretty normal.
