If you were a slave, you did not have rights over your own body. You could be subject to arbitrary coroporal punishment, were unable to marry legally, could be sold abroad, could be forced to leave your family and never see them again, could be mutilated, could be beaten in public, could be abused physically and sexually by your owner or their friends and relatives- how does any of this apply to being a taxpayer ?

If you choose not to pay taxes, you may be fined or you may go to jail. You will not be sold to someone in, say, North Korea. You will not be hobbled, or have your foot amputated or your hand amputated. You will not be forced to have sex on the orders of the state. You will not be whipped in public until skin is removed from your back. Et cetera, et cetera.

You are so stupid and so offensive to make this comparison, especially when slavery- real slavery- exists in the modern world.

One of the characters in the film I have made for the BBC is Dalyn, a young girl from Cambodia, who after years of counselling and therapy was able and willing to talk to us about how she was sold into sexual slavery in a brothel when she was 12 years old.

Dalyn represents just one of the estimated 1.2 million children that the International Labour Organisation believes are trafficked every year.

Tricked and forced into prostitution, Dalyn spent much of her time locked in a cage with others underneath a brothel - starved, beaten and threatened at gun point until she agreed to service clients.

I just figured that the ignore list was broken somehow, before I looked at the name. Serves me right for looking in a BK thread, but it's actually not so bad if you just read the quotes and WTF reactions from people who have the time and energy to deal with him.

I wondered if you had a sense of what real slavery would mean. Since my post, you have continued to use language around government "owning you" etc etc. The difference between slavery and what the American governemnt does . . .. it seems quite obvious to me but I have long learned not to assume anything is obvious or accepted in Kenobi land

For me another single parent adoption issue is also about what is better for the child. A single parent adoption or continued living in an institution. I haven't seen any studies in this area. Not all adoptions are newborns.

Of course. And in some cases a single parent is better than a couple.

It is just an additional factor to include.
