They are a monstrous evil, and the sooner we can bring them back under control, the better off we all will be. One day this will be a man's world once again, and women will exist only to provide us with sexual release. We'll keep the pretty ones in brothels and slaughter the ugly ones for cattle feed. Once the pretty ones get old or worn out, we can ship them straight to the abattoir. Can I get an AMEN!?

    • Oh, I dunno about that - after all fathers are on the hook for child support for 18 years.

      • That's a good point, fathers should have the opportunity to opt out of supporting a child before the child is born.

"I'm not arguing with you, Elok/Now I'm arguing with you, Elok"? Geez, make up your mind.

Anyway, we (as private citizens) have just as much hope of stopping abortion through direct action as we did of stopping what went on in Darfur. Less, actually; a small army of vigilantes could have financed a trip across the Atlantic relatively cheaply and inflicted substantial casualties on the Janjaweed, enough to make them lose their nerve and hamper their attack. Or they could have bought the locals arms and food, etc.

As for abortion, what could be done? Hunger strikes like Jon suggested would be vulnerable to a left-wing media blackout (papers like the WaPo and NYT have an annual tradition of snubbing the right-to-life march: giving it minimal reporting, choosing pics of only the most extreme protesters, giving far more attention to the tiny counter-protester presence...), and it's not like that kind of thing changes anybody's opinion. It just forces action in the short term.

I don't think violence could do any more--not against the wishes of the majority of the population. If you can think of a tactic that might yield worthwhile results, let me know. In the meantime, we're better off sticking to peaceful tactics.

In my experience most of them do opt out after it's legally mandated. AFAIK almost no one ever ponies up for child support. It's too easy to keep re-negotiating in court.
