Originally posted by Dinner View PostBut the selection process is different from what I understand. Yes, you go through the same process but in the reserves, at least the Army Reserves, you already have your slot before you start the school where as you can apply to be an active duty officer but you aren't assured a slot even if you pass (they normally only have X number of open slots and they take only the top scoring people until they get to X). The difference is in the reserves if you pass the school then you are assured selection where as on active duty you can pass the school but not get selected.
Selection always happens before OCS and selection is based on your package and available slots in AD Ground, Law, Air, and USMCR.
There used to be an R option on a AD Ground contract where if you are not selected for AD Ground, you automatically are in the running for R. They changed this policy. You apply as either USMC or USMCR. But again, the application is identical and your package goes to the exact same board. The difference is you compete only against people with your contract specification.
What sense is there in taking people in, putting them through OCS, then selecting people? The Army way, as you described it, is nonsensical and a waste of resources.Last edited by Al B. Sure!; February 22, 2012, 19:01."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

OK, then if the Marine Reserves won't get you what you want (in the Army Reserve it would) then try the active duty Army. It has many times as many people and slots to fill compared to the Marines so you're more likely to be able to land one of those slots.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Oh, man. The hair would just clog up the pool filter something terrible. My dad would be out there once a week, pulling the filter out (they're large 3 foot tall filters about 3/4ths of a foot in diameter), hose it off for a good ten minutes, then spend 20 minutes trying to pick out hair clumps from all the little nooks and crannies. The dogs absolutely loved it though as did we kids. IMHO every boy needs a dog and a dog which will jump off of a diving board to follow you is the best kind of dog.
Boy runs and jumps off of diving board, dog wants to be with him so bad the dog also jumps off of the diving board to follow him. That's true animal companionship right there. He got good enough in the water he'd even hold his breath when he was under the water and then swim back up to the surface.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

OMFG, Al you have wanted to be a MARINE for several years and you never learned to swim. Al, learn to swim NOW.What can make a nigga wanna fight a whole night club/Figure that he ought to maybe be a pimp simply 'cause he don't like love/What can make a nigga wanna achy, break all rules/In a book when it took a lot to get you hooked up to this volume/

I have to agree with Pax. If you want a job then you need to do what it takes to qualify for that job even if it gets you out of your comfort zone. Being able to swim is part of the job of being a Marine. It's hard to be on a ship or storm a beach without being able to swim.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
