It's easy to be on a ship if you can't swim, it's just difficult to be off of a ship if you can't swim

You have to know how to swim to be a marine let alone a marine officer. It's a requirement and it's much better to learn before you go than to have a Gunny teach you. Believe me.

If you want to be a marine officer or anything. You can do things to make yourself more marketable. You've already got the physical fitness on lock. How about if you learn to shoot a rifle and shotgun or at least take a fam course. Also, if you don't have one get a drivers license, being able to drive translates into potentially driving a tank or armored vehicle.
I would expect a marine to be able to run, shoot, drive, swim as a basic skillset. I believe you only have one of these skills but they are actually obtainable now. Also, when I was applying for NAVY OCS, one of the questions on my application was "Can you swim?" I answered yes. For some strange reason, my application was held up at the board because they wanted to know how far I could swim before I was selected. Being able to swim as well as a lot of other seemingly minor things can be the difference between being selected and not being selected. As your Poly friend, I am strongly advising you to learn to swim and generally build your resume up.

I'll take swimming classes later in the spring when the university gym starts offering them.

No paperwork I ever did asked me about swimming ability and no one ever asked me, either. My buddy (Black, by the way) who's an officer now did warn me to learn how to swim before going to TBS, though. I actually chuckled a bit because I never told him I couldn't swim. I guess he just assumed.

I love DI's. My platoon staff the second time through was great. They never even yelled at me.

Point taken. That said, being on a ship in a war zone means there is a risk the ship could be sunk or damaged so learning to swim is still a key skill which should be learned. Heck, you could just be on watch and get washed over board by a wave so swimming is a necessary life skill in that job.

I graduated Navy OCS in 1997, its really possible that between navy and 1997 things would not be quite the same but the point i am making is universal and goes beyond OCS.

Dogs can swim. I think it would therefore be possible to be chased by a dog whilst swimming.

There are opportunities for dog walkers in Philadelphia.

Walking dogs, particularly cute fluffy little puppies, is also a way to meet girls. Kill two birds with one stone.

                              No BS.
I think a lot of your problems would be solved with a job like Police Officer. 1. You get to utilize your education and physical fitness. 2. A lot of women like a man in uniform.
You still need to learn to drive before becoming a Police Officer. Failing the driving portion of the academy is common. Shooting is something that you can wait until the academy for but driving...a 26 year old needs to know how to drive. Have you seen the episodes of the Big Bang Theory where no one wants to drive Sheldon around?

From a Motivation Point the Navy should prefer Non-Swimmers, they'd defend the Ship longer.
