Some of the simpler posters here may be taken in by your imperialist sophistry, but I know the history involved and am well aware of Britain's true nature.

the french never claimed the islands in a serious way. the spanish have repeatedly recognised british sovereignty. even argentinean historians (such as molinari) don't try to claim the falkands based on the nootka sound convention.

the fact that you think 3 months of a penal colony (the soldiers were expelled by the british, but not the existing civilian population) is more important 170 years of continuous settlement and the wishes of the population is especially amusing.

Penn is an idiot. The only proper course of action is for the people of the Falklands to decide for themselves which country they want to be part of or even if they want to be independent. Anything else really is "colonialist". The right to self determination of peoples is as valid today as it was in 1918 when President Wilson spoke about it at the Versailles conference.

The issue is that Some south american countries don't want to see the South Atlantic turn into a southern version of the North Sea Oil Fields of the UK, or even of the European Union if the UK somehow stops being seen as a trojan horse of the USA and become European Union friendly and a third equal to Germany and France in the EU, and that would look like colonialism, Falklanders are less than 3 thousand, there are lots of factories and shopping malls with more employees than that, they would seem like an excuse to exploit the wealth of a continent thousands of miles away.
The wealth of a continent they're not even apart of? Seriously, the Falklands aren't even on the South American plate so that's a hard argument to make. Most scientists would agree a continent ends at the continental boundaries. The size of the population doesn't matter and instead all that matters is what the people of the territory want for themselves especially if their on a discreat land mass thousands of miles from any continent or other country.

Yeah, because people who lived some where for 190 years have no say in the status of the territory of where they live. I bet dopey Drake agrees with the IRA that British citizens living in Northern Ireland for 500 years (25 generations) really aren't Irish but invaders who should be sent away. Dumb ass.

You know, I think Drake's actually trying to prove a point about Israel, here. Just a guess.

Hmm, I thought they were on the Scotia plate like south Georgia Island (Argentina tried to steal them too) but it seems to be on the extreme fringes of Patagonian continental shelf.

Of course we could always talk about microplates but that's all besides the point which is self determination of people.

Oerdin is ALWAYS wrong. It never fails.

Now, now. Expertise in geology does not infer expertise in geography.

                          Even if it should.

Normally some numpty will **** up the difference between 'discrete' and 'discreet', but 'discreat' is a whole new order of FAIL!

Give up Argentina, you're not getting them back. Let's hope we get sh*tloads of oil in the next few years. We'll let a few slicks drift in your direction...enjoy the smell
