  • Sean Penn backs Argentina over the Falklands

The latest figure to back the Argentine cause is the Hollywood actor and activist Sean Penn.

After meeting Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in Buenos Aires, he urged the UK to join talks on the dispute.

"I think that the world today is not going to tolerate any kind of ludicrous and archaic commitment to colonialist ideology," the Oscar-winning actor said.
Argentina's main transport union says it will boycott ships flying the British flag as tensions rise over the Falkland Islands.

I think that just made the British position 150% cooler.

Just waiting for him to voluntarily donate all his property to whichever native American tribe it was originally stolen from...

Actually I'm kind of hoping the Argies decide to launch another war, if only to see the capabilities of our new destroyer put to the test! If the Argies want the islands back, now's the time to go for it, seeing as we find ourselves in the absurd situation of not having any aircraft carriers for the next few years!

I've never understood why anyone gives a **** what actors/singers/entertainers say about political issues.

But he tried to use big words!

In this case the Penn is most definitely not mightier than the sword!

His argument would be much more compelling if he delivered it in his "stoner dude" persona from Ridgemont High.

Someone should tell Penn that he's like 30 years too late.

Its used as a sounding board for rational thought in case you have any doubt on the matter. If Sean Penn takes a pro Argentina stance you can bet the Argies are in the wrong.

The same applies on these boards obviously.

I would have taken the position that the Falklands belonged to Argentina based on the English stealing everything. However, in light of this report, clearly the Argentinians are the ones attempting to steal the product of decades of British development and labour.
