California state law requires labeling so that consumers can make informed decisions for themselves. Now, because California's market is so large even though the labeling wouldn't be required in the other 49 states the companies will be changing their formulas to comply with the stricter California standards.

BTW in California it is already illegal to sell soda and sugary snacks in schools. Believe it or not our former Republican governor championed that one.
The other side of this story is that California always hits the panic button first, and the Feds follow suit so they don't look lax. This is how it always happens, so much so that once Cali does it, industry nearly always gears up to be ready for the inevitable Federal response.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Until you can provide a more coherent definition of "stuff I happen to think is bad," then nothing more than the logic of a "12 yo" is needed to refute your claims.

            • Man made chemical.

              That was breathtakingly hard.

              • Is toast man made? I don't think it exists in nature, so it must be man made. Then if I throw out a piece of toast into a compost pile, is my compost still organic?

                      • What are you trying to say?

                        1) Everything is a chemical?
                        2) Industrial food is good for you?
                        3) That I am an idiot for focusing on healthy, natural food?
                        4) That food should not be labeled properly?

CONGRATULATIONS, any of these make you sound like an idiot!!!

                        • We're saying that the truth is knowable, and the best method we've got for knowing the truth is science. Anybody who goes for sensational journalism or gut instincts over rational experimentation and observation deserves to be mocked. The problem with this world is people abandoning their capacity for reason, and you are part of the problem.

                          • I've said this before, Oncle Boris, but you're astoundingly bad at logic for someone who claims to be a philosopher.

I don't think he's opposed to science. I think his problem is in how he approaches it. Science rarely makes the kinds of broad, general claims he's been making in this thread - biology especially and medicine and health even more so.
