I think the general idea isn't to "go around" at all, but to mind your own business at home, perfectly content that if somebody breaks into your house you're within your rights to waste him without worrying about whether a judge would find he posed a threat. Rather different from seeking out criminals to execute.Comment

I can't speak on every state but pretty sure the standard is, the use of force is justified only if there is reasonable imminent danger of serious bodily harm, immediate force is necessary to prevent that danger, and no more force is used than necessary to defend against that danger.
