  • Watching "Drugs, Inc."

    various episodes covering different drugs.

All I can think is how much of a ****ing waste the drug war is. **** the po-lice. Drug laws are idiotic. Let people get high if they want to.

The older I get, the more I realize how ****ing repugnant it is to tell people what they can and cannot do to themselves, or what they can or cannot sell to other people in voluntary exchanges.

        S'truth.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I imagine even the worst colic pales in comparison to crack-baby sans crack.

She has no kids. And if she got pregnant, she can abort them. And failing that, I have no problem with taking her kids from her.

a million people or so are in jail because of drug laws, and tens of thousands die from drug violence (neither of which would happen with legalization). Plus the loss of liberty from *******s telling me whether or not I can get high. **** 'em.

Isn't there little to no evidence of the crazy crack baby thing? I had heard it wasn't nearly as bad as fetal alcohol syndrome, and alcohol is legal.

There is no such thing as a crack baby. Just another of the lies you've been fed.

Fears were widespread that a generation of crack babies were going to put severe strain on society and social services as they grew up. Later studies failed to substantiate the findings of earlier ones that PCE has severe disabling consequences; these earlier studies had been methodologically flawed (e.g. with small sample sizes and confounding factors). Scientists have come to understand that the findings of the early studies were vastly overstated and that most people who were exposed to cocaine in utero do not have disabilities.

No specific disorders or conditions have been found to result for people whose mothers used cocaine while pregnant. Studies focusing on children of six years and younger have not shown any direct, long-term effects of PCE on language, growth, or development as measured by test scores. PCE also appears to have little effect on infant growth. However, PCE is associated with premature birth, birth defects, attention deficit disorder, and other conditions. Cognitive, motor, behavior, developmental, and language problems also appear to result from PCE. The effects of cocaine on a fetus are thought to be similar to those of tobacco and less severe than those of alcohol. No scientific evidence has shown a difference in harm to a fetus of crack and powder cocaine
That makes sense, its a stimulant like nicotine and smoked.

My dad's mother smoked when she was pregnant with him. As far as anyone can tell, the only adverse effect was that he is a bit shorter in height than he should be.

It's obviously not a good thing, and the effects might be more severe for others. My dad might have gotten lucky. But we don't ban cigarettes.

I mean her babies as she raises them (or others like her).

And taking kids form a messed up situation is often about as bad as leaving them in a messed up situation (that is why they usually only do it if the situation is really screwed up). My mom works in the field, my sister is probably going to lose hers, and I have 3 adopted siblings (who were abused prior).

                            The cost is really high.

If we had some deal where you could shoot up what you want as long as you get your ovaries/testes removed or whatever, might be something to consider. Would have to put some more rules into there too, probably.

But it is a straight up lie that what people do only effect themselves. That is why it is repugnant to say that nothing should be done to regulate what people do and exchange. Because it isn't just for themselves.
