It recognised the existence of slavery as a practice but it didn't explicitly legalise or abolish slavery. In fact it explicitly avoided the topic and that was quite deliberate. The American colonials were fighting a revolutionary war and chose not to address that topic at that time for that reason. That's what happened, right or wrong.

It has been hilarious listening to Republicans come up with excuses for how Gingrich is in the lead. To hear them say it, apparently the only people voting for Gingrich are secret Democratic operatives who have infiltrated the Republican primary process. It's absolutely hilarious to hear their excuses.

Compared to America we are indeed a shrine to racial harmony. If a politician in any of the major western European countries came out with some of the **** your reps do, they wouldn't be able to get a job mowing lawns afterwards.

Having lived in France I'm certainly aware that there are dangerous areas, and heard talk about the police not entering certain areas. I'm interested to see however if you actually have some hard evidence to support this, and especially your remark that it is a matter of public policy.

I'm also a little curious about why this is particularly relevant to the muslims. We have a couple of places in England that the police don't generally go, and thats nothing to do with muslims or any other specific group.
