The last real pair of shoes I've purchased/used are a pair of brahma steel toe work boots I bought about 3 years go. They work well in the desert, jungle, are great for hiking and a good workout for running ... and even more amazingly have passed through US customs 4 times without incident.

I still have a few pairs of sneakers and dress shoes from years gone by, but haven't worn any of them in ages. When I was in high school I always wore Jordans. :ashamed:

It is so obvious that you guys don't actually go outside for work or fun.
I have about 15 different pairs of shoes, sneakers and loafers, ranging from dress to street, from 300$ to 25$.

Clothing, shoes and accessories are an important signaling device. So is grooming, in general. When you meet tens of new people at certain days, this is a great investment.

Here I was, hoping for a discussion on the rampant consumerism, the breakdown of society, the futility of our existence, the end of the world as we know it and so on and so on. :desire:

And down the drain this topic goes, with everyone flaunting their shoe possessions

I am sure this thread is very aspirational for those who have fully embraced rampant consumerism. What could possibly be more desirable, for a rampant consumer, than the possesion of an excessive number of shoes, particularly if the shoes are expensive and preferably grossly overpriced?

Why buy a perfectly good pair of runners for $40 when you can buy an equally useful pair of Air Jordans for $250?

runners? Is that an Australian term for sneakers? Running shoes are not the same thing as sneakers.

              "Sneakers" is an American word.

By runners I meant running shoes.

Where I came from the word "sand shoes" was usually used as a generic terms for the canvas sports shoes.

Go find 'perfectly good' running shoes for $40 USD. Does not exist.

Jordans are not running shoes. Chucks are not running shoes.

Let's face it, if it was white people going crazy for stupid shoes you wouldn't have seen all the attention on right wing websites about this but because it was black people who really, REALLY wanted these shoes suddenly every right winger in America was linking this story. Usually claiming they were all "Negros on welfare" who were rioting for $200 shoes. I see this as just another not very logical consumer craze this time with mostly blacks being caught up in the phenomenon but the comments on Drudge, Fox, and other right wing sites makes it clear how they wanted to turn this into some sort of racial offense. Offer a sale on Birkenstocks in Southern California and you'd have a mob of blond haired white girls showing up to fight over who gets what.

Trainers in the UK. You've not really got the hang of English not being solely the language of the US. The clue is in the name

Again, running shoes are specialist shoes that are not the same as cross-trainers or basketball shoes or whatever else.

Again, English is not the same in every part of the world.

You idiot, I'm trying to understand what the hell they're talking about. They keep saying they mean running shoes but it doesn't sound like they do because they keep alluding to Jordans and 'trainers'. Jordans are basketball shoes morphed into fashion shoes. Trainers are cross-trainers. They are not the same thing as running shoes.
